National Parks & Nature

The beauty, majesty, and wonder of the National Parks is an experience that I am fortunate enough to experience. Hiking on a trail is like experiencing life's challenges and I can get lost with navigating the trail and each step along the way. When I look up and see the immense beauty all around, I am reminded that there is so much more to life that is to be experienced.

Getting out into nature for a hike is a great way to boost brain health. Hiking works the heart and lungs and involves major muscle groups. This increases blood flow to the brain and is associated with improved focus, memory, and cognition.

Enjoying the beauty of nature and breathing in fresh air is calming to the mind, reduces anxiety, and improves cognition. By bringing oxygen to the amygdala, breathing in fresh air can calm the fight, flight, freeze, and faint response.

Feel free to share any wonderful experiences you have had at a national park or in nature.
